Zoe & Jake

A little bit about us –

Zoe Bates (19), a local to Hike to the Mic, has been singing all her life. Her love of music has allowed her to be exposed to so many incredible opportunities. She first started her music career as the lead singer for Temporary Sanity Band (back when she was an awkward teenager with a mouthful of braces), and still enjoys singing with them to this day. She now studies Psychology, Spanish and Animal Science at UConn with a hope to work in Animal Behavior. She sings in UConn’s finest a cappella group Extreme Measures, which this past year went on tour to Boston and Montréal. Now, she is beyond excited to perform in a duo act with the incredible guitarist Jake.

Jake Baynes (19) is a Boston based blues artist who made his start at the ripe age of 8 years old. After discovering the blues, Jake had the fortune of meeting and sitting in with his idol, blues legend, Robben Ford. With inspiration from Ford, Jake joined his high school jazz combo and attended the nationwide Berklee Jazz Festival, where he received both Outstanding and Superior musicianship awards (his combo won first place for both 2018 and 2019). This pushed Jake to attend his dream school, Berklee College Of Music, where he now studies and hopes to complete a degree in Music Business Management and Marketing. Since then, Jake has formed his own Boston based blues band titled “The Jake Baynes Band.” Jake has also had the opportunity to sit in with Blues icons Matt Schofield, Lee Roy Parnell, and Joe Louis Walker.
